Telephone Line Monitor
TELEPHONE LINE MONITOR

Indicates when your Telephone Line is In Use (Off Hook)
or
It can also be used to warn you if your Telephone Line is cut
Details
-
Our Telephone Line Monitor (TLM) is designed to let you know when your Telephone Line is 'In Use', by closing or opening an internal dry contact relay whenever an attached telephone is in use. This relay is used to control an attached electrical device.
OR -
By changing the position of a Dip Switch, TLM can be configured to close or open the internal dry contact relay when it detects that the Telephone Line has been cut or disconnected.
-
The internal dry contact relay is rated at 12V/1A, so it can directly control a 12V light, Siren or any Electrical Device that accepts a relay input.
-
If a 240V device is required to operate (or turn off) when TLM responds, you can use our inexpensive Power Control Unit accessory which connects dire to TLM (see details below).
-
The Dry Contact Relay can be configured for Normally Open or Normally Closed operation.
Operation
TLM constantly monitors the LINE VOLTAGE of the attached telephone line.
If the voltage drops below a threshold value then the Telephone Line is either In Use (Off Hook) or the Telephone Line has been disconnected.
A Dip Switch located on the underside of TLM, is used to configure TLM to operate as a 'Line In Use' detector or a 'Line Disconnect' detector.
'Line In Use' detector - The Dip Switch is set to OFF
As soon as any device connected to the TELEPHONE LINE OUT port of TLM goes 'OFF HOOK', TLM will OPEN or CLOSE the internal relay until the Telephone Line voltage returns to normal.
'Line Disconnected' detector - The Dip Switch is set to ON
When the Telephone Line voltage drops below a threshold value, TLM will check to see if any device connected to the TELEPHONE LINE OUT port is OFF HOOK.
If an attached device is OFF HOOK, TLM will not change the state of the relay.
If an attached device is NOT OFF HOOK, TLM will change the state of the relay until Line Voltage increases to a value above the threshold value.
Installation
TLM has 4 ports :
1) The incoming telephone line should be connected to the TELEPHONE LINE IN port of TLM
2) The TELEPHONE LINE OUT port of TLM should connect to all of your telephone devices or telephone extensions.
3) Your Electrical Device or Power Control Unit should connect to the RELAY OUTPUT port of TLM. A plug in 'Connection Box' with Screw Terminals is supplied with TLM to provide for easy connection to your Accessory Device.
4) The supplied 12V Power Adaptor should be connected to the 12V Power port of TLM. A 12VAC or 12VDC input can be used.
There is a dip switch located on the underside of TLM which allows for selection of Normally Open or Normally Closed relay operation.

Power Control Unit Accessory
The optional Power Control Unit (PCU) will allow you to connect a 240V Electrical Device such as a Light, Horn or Siren etc, that can be activated whenever the Telephone Line Monitor detects that :
-
The Telephone Line has been disconnected
OR -
The Telephone Line is in Use (Off Hook)
PCU is designed for quick and easy 'plug in' user installation.
Simply connect the POWER PLUG of the PCU to your electricity supply and the POWER SOCKET to your electrical equipment. The PCU then connects direct to Telephone Line Monitor with a supplied 'curly cord adaptor'.
PCU is available in two models.
- Model PCU -1 is configured in a NORMALLY ON configuration, so that your equipment will be switched ON, unless commanded by an RTA device.
- Model PCU -2 is configured in a NORMALLY OFF configuration, so that your equipment will be switched OFF, unless commanded by an RTA device.
- Model PCU -2 should be used with Telephone Line Monitor
