Telephone Line Monitor

TELEPHONE LINE MONITOR
When you need to know that a Telephone Line is operational

Will Indicate if an important Telephone Line is Lost, Cut or Disconnected

Details

  • Our Telephone Line Monitor (TLM) is designed to let you know when your Telephone Line has been cut or disconnected by closing an Internal Relay. The Relay will open whenever the Telephone Line is present.

  • The internal relay is designed to directly control a choice of Strobe light, Siren or our Power Control Unit accessories (see below).

  • The dry contact relay output from TLM can also control any 3rd Party Electrical Device that accepts a relay input.

Operation

TLM constantly monitors the Telephone Line that it is connected to warn if the Telephone Line has been Disconnected or Cut for a period of 10 seconds or longer.

In the event that this happens, TLM will automatically CLOSE the contacts of an Internal Relay, which in turn can be used to trigger other external equipment to advise of the loss of Telephone Line. The contact of the Internal Relay will remain closed until the telephone line service has been restored.

TLM’s Internally Relay has Dry Relay Contacts, rated at 12V/1A.

Three Optional low cost Accessories are available from Natcomm for use with TLM, to alert the user that the Telephone Line has been lost. These Accessory Devices are all designed for Easy User Installation. See below for further details.

The Relay Output of TLM can alternatively be used to Control a 3rd Party Electrical Device (not supplied). An Accessory Device Connection box (with 2 screw terminals) is supplied for this purpose and connects to TLM via a short supplied cable.LINE VOLTAGE of the attached telephone line.

Installation

TLM has 4 ports :

1) The incoming telephone line should be connected to the TELEPHONE LINE IN port of TLM

2) The TELEPHONE LINE OUT port of TLM should connect to all of your telephone devices or telephone extensions.

3) Your Natcomm Accessory or 3rd Party Electrical Device should connect to the RELAY OUTPUT port of TLM. A plug in 'Connection Box' with Screw Terminals is supplied with TLM to provide for easy connection to your Accessory Device.

4) The supplied 12V Power Adaptor should be connected to the 12V Power port of TLM. A 12VAC or 12VDC input can be used.

Two Accessories are designed for use with TLM

Tone Alert Accessory

Our Tone Alert Accessory outputs a Warning Tone as soon as it detects the Relay Closure output from TLM.

Its output volume can be adjusted to suit any application :

  • A volume pot is located on the underside of the unit, to allow for volume adjustment to suit open office areas up to 1000 - 2000 sq ft, or small factory areas.

  • An amplified 3.5mm Audio Output (7W) is also provided to allow for connection of additional standard 8 Ohm Speakers or PC type Speakers with Amplifier and Volume Control. This will suit larger Office Environments, Noisy Office Environments, or small-medium sized Factory Areas.

  • The 3.5mm Audio Output can also be connected to an External Amplifier so that it’s Alert Tone can be used for ANY sized Office Environment, External Area or Factory Area serviced by a suitable Amplifier.

Tone Alert uses an Internal Microprocessor circuit and Speaker to produce a Dip Switch selectable Alert Tone (400Hz) or an Alarm Tone (1100Hz) tone, rather than the annoying high pitched frequency of inexpensive ‘Piezo Alarms’.

The Dip Switch located on the underside of the unit will also allow the Warning Tones output ‘cadence’ to be changed to suit different applications. It can output : This Accessory also has a Dip Switch located on the underside of the unit, to allow the Alert Tones output ‘cadence’ to be changed to suit different applications. It can output :

  • A Continuous Tone

  • A repeating Tone that is 2 Seconds On and then 2 Seconds Off

  • A repeating Tone that is 4 Seconds On and then 4 Seconds Off

  • A repeating Tone that is 2 Seconds On and then 4 Seconds Off (same as a Phone Ring)

Strobe Alert Accessory

Our Strobe Alert Accessory uses EIGHT High Intensity RED LED’s which Flash to alert Users as soon as it detects a Relay Closure Output from TLM.

When Wall Mounted, it is Ideal for a small office (up to 500-1000 sq ft), or for small Factory Areas.

For Larger areas, Two or More Strobe Alert Accessories can be connected in parallel to the Natcomm unit :

This Accessory has a Dip Switch located on the underside of the unit, to allow the 'Strobe Flash Cadence' to be changed to suit different applications. It can output. A continuous tone.

  • A Continuous Strobe Flash

  • Strobe Flash that is 2 Seconds On and then 2 Seconds Off

  • Strobe Flash that is 4 Seconds On and then 4 Seconds Off

  • Strobe Flash that is 2 Seconds On and then 4 Seconds Off (same as a Phone Ring)

Wall Mounting Bracket

The plastic enclosure of Both accessories has 2 ‘Key Hole Slots’ molded into the bottom plate to provide for Easy Wall Mounting.

A Wall Mount Bracket is supplied with each Accessory and this unit screws direct onto a wall with 2 small crews. Once the Wall Mount Bracket is in place, the Accessory 'Clips' straight into the Keyholes and then you just pull it down lightly to lock it into place.

Power and Connection

All Three Accessories are powered direct from TLM and connect with just 4 wires. An expandable 'Curly Cord' cable is provided with each Accessory, to allow it to be placed or mounted in a convenient nearby location.

If the Accessory needs to be remote from TLM, it can be located up to 100 yards away if solid core cabling is used. Cat 3 (standard telephone cable) or Cat5 cable or Standard Telephone Cable is ideal. Polarity is not important as the Accessory has an Integrated Polarity Rectifier.

If the Accessory is to be located more than 100 yards away, it has a standard 12VDC (2.5mm) Power Input Socket to allow for local powering. You can use a separate local 12VAC or 12VDC input of any polarity.

Should the 12V power source to TLM be lost or disconnected, its Internal Relay will remain Open (Normal Open Relay) and it will remain Open on reconnection of its 12V Power source.

Should the 12V power source to TLM be lost or disconnected, its Internal Relay will remain Open (Normal Open Relay) and it will remain Open on reconnection of its 12V Power source.

Third Party Electrical Device

The relay output from TLM can also be used to advise an external 3rd party electrical device that the telephone line has been cut or disconnected.

The relay output from TLM is Dry Contact (Rated at 1A at 12V).

TLM’s relay contacts connect to the centre 2 pins of the 4P4C RJ socket of TLM.

This output is ideal for many devices where a simple ‘unpowered’ relay closure is required.

A Connection Box with a short cable to connect it to TLM is provided to allow for quick and easy connection to the external 3rd part device.

The Connection Box has 2 screw terminals for cable connection to the external 3rd part device.

The Connection Box screw terminals also connect to the centre 2 pins of the 4P4C RJ socket of TLM.

Important Note

If TELEPHONE LINE MONITOR is used with an EMERGENCY or CRITICAL Telephone Device, then correct operation of Line Selector and the Telephone Device should be tested at appropriate Intervals for its application.

Although TELEPHONE LINE MONITOR  has proved to be extremely reliable over many years of operation, events such as telephone line surges, power surges, connection issues or even failure of Line Selector are all possible.
