Fax Switches

FaxSwitch

What is a Fax Switch?

A Fax Switch is an Intelligent Telephone Line Switch that can detect an Incoming Fax Call on your existing Voice Telephone Line and switch it Automatically to your Fax Machine. A Fax Switch should be used when your Fax Number is the same as your Telephone Number.

Two separate Fax Switch detection methods and products are provided, to cater for differing customer requirements :

Fax Switch 1 is designed to detect and process Fax Calls immediately after the incoming call has been answered by a telephone on the same line or after the call has been answered by an answering machone. This method is called 'Voice Priority' as voice calls are handled without change or delay.

Fax Switch 2 is designed to answer all incoming calls before they ring on your telephones. Fax Switch 2 will detect and process Fax Calls without your telephones ringing and without the telephone having to be answered by another device. This method is called 'Fax Priority'.

Fax Switch 1

  • Is ideal where Fax Reception is light.
  • Is designed for use with an Answering Machine.
  • Uses a 'Voice Priority' operating method and it is totally Transparent, which means that your Callers will never know that there is a Fax or Switch on the line.
  • Provides for Quick and Easy User Installation.

Fax Switch 2
  • Is designed for Business Use where Fax Reception is higher.
  • Is Ideal for PABX use.
  • Can operate with or without an Answering Machine.
  • Provides 'Fax Priority' and 'Voice Priority' operating modes.
  • 'Voice Priority' operation allows for Easy User Installation.
  • 'Fax Priority' operation allows for Easy User Installation where only 1 telephone socket is used or when Cordless Phones are used from a single base station.
  • 'Fax Priority' operation will require installation by a technician when used with a PABX or where more than 1 telephone socket is in use with separate telephones.

Why Use a Fax Switch ?

Because it will SAVE YOU MONEY - Save up to $2500 in 5 years!

  • Fax Line Monthly Rental is constantly Increasing.

  • Fax Line Installation Costs are Increasing.

  • Fax Use is decreasing and many Dedicated Fax Lines get little use.

  • Because a National Communications Switch will provide you AND your Fax Callers with a Reliable, Fully Automatic Fax Reception solution.

If you use a Multi-Line PABX System

  • You can move your little used Fax Line to your PABX to ADD another telephone line that can also be used to RECEIVE and MAKE calls.

  • You can move your little used Fax Line to your PABX to REPLACE the existing last line and SAVE the monthly rental of an uneccessary line.

Why should you use a Fax Switch instead of a Faxability Switch ?

  • If you want to use the same phone number for Voice and Fax calls.

  • If you use a multi line PABX Telephone System.

  • If you don't want the ongoing service costs of $4 per month for the Faxability® Service.

Why should you use a Faxability Switch instead of a Fax Switch ?

  • If you are using an off site Voice Mail service from your Telephone company (such as MessageBank®.
This solution allows your Fax's to be received at your site while Voice calls only are diverted to your Voice Mail service.

  • If you have been using a separate Fax Line in the past and reduced Fax volumes can no longer justify this.
This service allows you to continue using your existing Fax Number.

  • If you want to have separate Voice and Fax numbers.

HOW DO THEY WORK ?

Fax Switch 1 (and Fax Switch 2 when set to Voice Priority operation)

  • All Incoming Calls ring on your telephone line as normal. You should answer the incoming call as normal.

If the call is a Voice Call, you can communicate as normal and your caller will never know that you have a Fax Machine or Fax Switch on your line. Fax Switch Opertion is transparent.

If the call is a Fax Call, you will hear the incoming 'Fax Beep' shortly after you answer. All you need to do is to hang up.
Fax Switch 1 (and Fax Switch 2 in voice priority mode) will detect that you have answered the call and they will also hear the 'Fax Beep'.
Even though you have hung up, the Fax Switch 'holds' the call and then RINGS your Fax Machine. When it answers, Faxswitch connects the incoming Fax call to your Fax Machine so that it can receive the call.

If you are not home, your Answer Phone will answer the call as normal.
Voice callers will hear your outgoing message as normal and they can leave their message as normal if they wish.
If the call is a Fax, Fax Switch will detect the 'Fax Beep', disconnect your Answer Phone and RING your Fax Machine so that it can receive the Fax.
Your Answer Phone will reset automatically ready to anwer the next incoming call.

  • Outgoing Phone calls can be made on this line as usual.

  • Outgoing Faxes will operate just as if the Fax was on its own line. If the line is in use, Fax Switch will wait until the line is free before allowing the Fax to call out.

Fax Switch 2 (in its default Fax Priority operation)

  • All Incoming Calls are Answered by Fax Switch 2 after 2 rings. Your telephones do not ring. Fax Swith 2 'listens' for a period of 3.5 seconds for a 'Fax Beep'.

If the call is a Voice Call, Fax Switch 2 will RING yourTELEPHONES so that you can answer the call and communicate with your caller.

If the call is a Fax Call, Fax Switch 2 will RING your Fax Machine and connect the incoming Fax Call to it so that it will receive the transmission.

If your site is unattended, your can have an Answer Phone answer the call as normal.
Voice callers will hear the outgoing message as normal and they can leave their message as normal if they wish.

  • Outgoing Phone calls can be made on this line as usual.

  • Outgoing Faxes will operate just as if the Fax was on its own line. If the line is in use, Fax Switch will wait until the line is free before allowing the Fax to call out.

Fax Switch 2 for PABX Phone System Users

  • Incoming Faxes will be detected by Faxswitch 2 and transferred to your Fax Machine automatically, just as if it was on its own line.

  • Outgoing Faxes will operate just as if the Fax was on its own line. If the line is in use, Fax Switch 2 will wait until the line is free before allowing the Fax to call out.

  • Incoming Phone calls will only ring on your last line when all other lines are in use. Fax Switch 2 will answer these occasional calls, listen briefly for Fax Tones and then connect the call to your phone system.

  • Outgoing Phone calls can be made on this line as usual.

INSTALLATION: A technician will fit Fax Switch 2 to the existing LAST LINE of your PHONE SYSTEM or they can move your Fax Line into your rotary group so that you now have an additional Voice Line. You still keep your existing Fax Number.

Important Note – A small number of Phones Systems use Digital ISDN lines. Fax Switch 2 is not suitable for use with these lines. If you are unsure whether you are using ISDN lines, please check your phone bill or call your telephone service provider.

Compatibility

Operation with ADSL

Our Fax Switch and Faxability Switch products are designed to operate with an ADSL service. They will not affect your ADSL service and your ADSL service will not affect the operation of our Switches.

It is essential that you use a High Quality ADSL Filter/Splitter somewhere on your Telephone Line ahead of our Switch.

We recommend the C10 brand ADSL Filter/Splitter, available from most telephone equipment retailers. Your Reseller can advise you of other suitable filters.

Operation with CallerID

Our Fax Switch and Faxability Switch products are designed to operate with a CallerID service.

If a CallerID telephone is to be connected direct to your Fax Switch or Faxability Switch, you can quickly and easily enable the unit to pass CallerID to your telephone device.

Operation with Simulated Telephone services

Our products are designed and guaranteed to operate with standard telephones lines.

We are unable to guarantee the operational reliability of our products on simulated telephone line services such as those provided via Cable or ATA devices, because the operation of our products depends on the accuracy of the simulated services.
