Modem Switch

MODEM SWITCH is a sophisticated Line Sharing device which is designed to allow you to connect a Dial Up MODEM to ANY existing Voice, Fax, Commander/PABX or other Multi-Line telephone system.

It provides you with the ultimate in flexibility, in order to meet a wide range of customer applications.

This device is designed to operate on an ordinary single  telephone line, or even with a PABX/Commander or other Multi Line telephone system.

Three Operating Modes

MODEM SWITCH provides you with a choice of THREE completely different methods of automatically receive incoming MODEM calls on an existing voice or fax line.

  •   DETECTION OF INCOMING MODEM CALLING TONES (1300Hz)

  •   DETECTION OF INCOMING DTMF TONES FROM SENDING MODEM

  •   FAXSTREAM DUET OPERATION

You can receive incoming MODEM calls using any combination of the above methods, at any time.

Receiving Calls

MODEM SWITCH distinguishes incoming Modem Calls from other incoming calls by answering all incoming calls in 2 rings.

It then listens for a short period of time for the presence of a Modem Calling Tone (1300Hz CNG tone), or a specific DTMF command.

If a Modem calling tone is detected, MODEM SWITCH will RING the attached Modem device and then connect the incoming Modem call.

If a  specific DTMF tone is detected (DTMF 3), MODEM SWITCH will RING the attached Modem device and then connect the incoming Modem call.

If a Modem calling tone or DTMF tone IS NOT DETECTED, MODEM SWITCH will realise that the incoming call is not a Modem call and will RING the OTHER attached  device(s) so that they can answer the call.

If the OTHER DEVICE is a Fax Machine, it will answer the call and connect to receive the incoming fax transmission.

If the OTHER DEVICE is a Telephone, Multiple Telephones or a PABX/Commander or other Multi Line telephone system, then MODEM SWITCH will ring these devices until the call is answered,or up to 20 times.

Outgoing Calls

For Outgoing calls, an EXCLUSION FACILITY is provided to ensure that the attached MODEM device cannot ‘Barge-In’ on a telephone call or fax call. Similarly, a telephone or fax call cannot ‘Barge-In’ on a MODEM transmission.

If the telephone or fax line is already in use when the MODEM device attempts to initiate a call, it will be blocked from the line and will not be allowed access to the line until the line is free.

Installation

MODEM SWITCH has also been designed for quick and easy USER INSTALLATION direct  to ANY TELEPHONE SOCKET, which will take you just a few minutes (excluding PABX applications, which requires installation by a telephone installation).

Multiple Modem Switch

Our MULTIPLE MODEM SWITCH devices are designed for applications where MULTIPLE telephone devices, which have Modem facilities, are required to RECEIVE INCOMING MODEM CALLS and share the same telephone line.

Up to FOUR   MULTIPLE MODEM SWITCH’s can be fitted to ONE LINE,  to provide for connection of up to 8 separate devices.

Each  MULTIPLE MODEM SWITCH will allow TWO devices to be added to it.

In total up to 7 Modems and 1 Fax Machine can share a Fax Telephone Line, or up to 8 Modems can share one telephone line.

Each  MULTIPLE MODEM SWITCH device provides BARGE-IN PROTECTION, which will ensure that only one of these telephone devices can have access to the telephone line at any one time.

Sharing a Fax Line

MULTIPLE MODEM SWITCH will answer all incoming calls after 2 rings.

If the incoming call is a Fax Call, the internal Fax Switch will then automatically detect and transfer the incoming Fax to the attached Fax Machine.

Incoming Modem (Data) calls are automatically routed to any 1 of 7 attached Modems by adding DTMF digit(s), 1 to 7, to the end of the telephone number (dial string) dialed by the calling Modem.

DTMF 1 will connect the call to Modem 1, DTMF 2 will connect to Modem 2 and so on right through to DTMF 8, which will connect the call to Modem 8.

Sharing a Dedicated Modem Line

MULTIPLE MODEM SWITCH  will answer all incoming calls after 2 rings.

Outgoing Calls

For Outgoing calls, an EXCLUSION FACILITY is provided to ensure that all of the attached MODEM devices cannot ‘Barge-In’ on another device which is using the line.
